What moves the gold price
The global gold price is the COMEX futures quote for one troy ounce (31.1 grams) of pure gold. Dealers and jewelers price from it: to value a gram of 14K or 18K gold, multiply the pure gold price per gram by the gold content — 0.585 for 14K, 0.75 for 18K.
Gold rises when US real yields fall, the dollar weakens and markets get nervous. Since 2022 central banks have been the biggest buyers, adding more than 1,000 tonnes a year as they diversify away from the dollar. Gold is often compared with bitcoin as the physical versus the digital store of value.
How to buy gold with crypto
You can get gold exposure without leaving crypto: XAUT and PAXG are backed by vaulted bullion, and crypto exchanges list gold futures settled in USDT that trade around the clock, weekends included, when COMEX is closed.
