What moves the platinum price
About 70% of platinum is mined in South Africa and roughly 10% in Russia. Demand comes from diesel catalytic converters, jewelry and chemicals, with hydrogen fuel cells as a future driver.
Platinum traded above gold until 2015; today it costs a fraction of it. Power cuts and strikes at South African mines and diesel car sales move the price.
