What moves the palladium price

Russia's Nornickel mines about 40% of the world's palladium and South Africa about a third. More than 80% goes into catalytic converters for gasoline cars.

Palladium topped $3,000 an ounce in 2022 before sliding as electric vehicles, which need no catalysts, gained share and carmakers swapped some palladium for platinum.
