Bitcoin (BTC) price
#1Smart Contract PlatformAbout the project
Bitcoin is the first cryptocurrency and the first working decentralized payment network. It was described in 2008 by an author using the name Satoshi Nakamoto, and the first block was mined in January 2009. No one owns the network: thousands of independent nodes enforce the rules, and miners produce new blocks using proof-of-work.
Supply is capped at 21 million coins, and the block reward halves roughly every four years. That predictable issuance is why bitcoin is often called digital gold. It is held as a store of value, backs spot ETFs in the United States and sits on the balance sheets of public companies and some governments.
