What drives the rate

Euro. The euro is used by 21 eurozone countries. EUR/USD is the most traded currency pair in the world, about a fifth of global FX turnover, and it trades mostly on the gap between ECB and Fed rates.

Russian ruble. Since the June 2024 sanctions the dollar no longer trades on the Moscow Exchange, so the central bank sets its official rate from over-the-counter bank trades. The ruble moves mainly on the key rate, export revenue and oil prices.

This is the interbank market rate. The Bank of Russia sets its official rate once a day from the previous day's trades, so it can differ slightly; banks and exchange offices add their own margin.
