What drives the rate
Turkish lira. The lira has lost more than 85% against the dollar since 2018 amid high inflation and years of low rates. Since 2023 the central bank has raised rates into the tens of percent and the slide has slowed.
Russian ruble. Since the June 2024 sanctions the dollar no longer trades on the Moscow Exchange, so the central bank sets its official rate from over-the-counter bank trades. The ruble moves mainly on the key rate, export revenue and oil prices.
This is the interbank market rate. The Bank of Russia sets its official rate once a day from the previous day's trades, so it can differ slightly; banks and exchange offices add their own margin.
