#20About the project
Stellar is an open network for payments and tokenized assets, launched in 2014 by Jed McCaleb, a co-founder of Ripple. It is built for fast, low-cost transfers, including between currencies.
Instead of mining, Stellar uses its own Stellar Consensus Protocol. Stablecoins such as USDC and tokenized money market funds are issued on the network. XLM pays fees and serves as an account reserve. The non-profit Stellar Development Foundation supports the network.
