DeFi is financial services run by smart contracts without banks or intermediaries: token swaps, loans, interest-bearing deposits, derivatives, stablecoins. Users keep control of their funds through a wallet, and the rules are open in the code.
DeFi tokens usually give governance rights, and some share protocol revenue. The main risks are smart contract bugs, hacks and cascading liquidations in a falling market.
