Hyperliquid is a decentralized perpetual futures exchange running on its own blockchain. Trading happens on a fully on-chain order book rather than an AMM pool, so the experience is close to a centralized exchange. It launched in 2023 without venture funding.
The HYPE token was airdropped mostly to users at the end of 2024. It is used for staking and fees, and a large share of exchange fees is spent buying HYPE back from the market. Beyond perps, Hyperliquid runs a spot market, the HLP vault and builder-deployed markets for stocks and commodities.
