ZEC holders just gave a huge thumbs up to slashing Zcash block times from 75 seconds down to 25 seconds as part of the upcoming NU7 upgrade. An overwhelming 99.9% of the voting coins supported the faster blocks. On a separate vote about emissions, 98.9% chose to stick with the current halving schedule instead of gradually phasing out ZEC issuance.

How the Voting Went Down

Votes were counted by coin volume, not by headcount. At the snapshot, the new Ironwood shielded pool held around 3.6 million ZEC. Roughly 2.4 million ZEC participated—that’s 66% turnout. The minimum bar to hold a valid vote was 1 million ZEC.

What’s Changing

The faster block interval is set to roll out with the next NU7 release. At the same time, the community voted to keep the current halving schedule, rejecting a move to gradually reduce ZEC emissions.
