Zcash is about to get three times faster: the community just backed cutting block times from 75 seconds down to just 25 seconds. In recent polls, a massive 99.9% of participants voted for faster blocks, and 98.9% want to keep the current halving schedule, which works like Bitcoin's.
Zcash Community Decision
Support for speeding up block times was pretty much unanimous—99.9% voted in favor. There was a separate vote on halvings: 98.9% want to stick with the existing halving cycle and keep emission cuts as they are now.
Emission and Rewards
To make sure the total ZEC supply stays the same with faster blocks, the reward per block will drop by about a third. That balances out the increased block frequency, so the overall pace of new coins hitting the market won’t change.
What’s Next: NU7
The upgrade isn’t live yet. These changes still need to be implemented and tested as part of the NU7 release. Until then, Zcash will keep running on the current setup.
