Starknet co-founder Eli Ben-Sasson has warned that quantum computers and advances in AI could threaten cryptocurrency security sooner than expected. He indicated that Starknet may consider moving from L2 to its own L1, which would allow for faster implementation of security updates without waiting for Ethereum.
Starknet Targets Quantum Resistance by 2027
According to his assessment, Starknet could achieve quantum resistance as early as 2027. Ethereum plans to reach full L1 quantum resistance by the end of 2029. There is currently no set timeline for Bitcoin to implement quantum protection.
Starknet’s L2 Architecture Relies on Ethereum Security
Currently, Starknet operates as a layer-2 solution and depends on Ethereum’s security. Transitioning to its own L1 would give the network the ability to independently and promptly implement security updates.
