South Korea’s Shinhan Bank has announced it’s kicking off a pilot for a KRW-denominated fund on the Solana blockchain. The project uses BlackRock’s BUIDL model, signaling that traditional financial giants are getting serious about asset tokenization and exploring new rails for fund management.
Piloting a KRW Fund on Solana
Shinhan plans to trial a fund denominated in Korean won (KRW) on Solana, tapping into the BUIDL model first introduced by BlackRock. This setup lets them experiment with new fund management mechanics using smart contracts, boosting transparency for every transaction.
BlackRock’s BUIDL Model
BUIDL is an infrastructure solution for fund tokenization, built by BlackRock. Bringing this model to Solana opens the door to more scalable options and tighter integration between legacy finance and blockchain tech.
What This Means for the Market
Shinhan’s experiment shows banks are getting more bullish on blockchain and tokenized assets. If the pilot goes well, it could pave the way for wider adoption of digital funds and help grow the Solana ecosystem in the finance world.
