Pretty Good Policy for Zcash (PGPZ) registered as a lobbyist in Washington starting October 1, listing executive director Divij Pandya as its sole lobbyist. Registration documents cite the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act (CLARITY Act) and two digital asset tax proposals among current and planned issues. The first year of operations is funded by a $750,000 grant approved by Zcash Community Grants in August.

CLARITY Act and Tax Initiatives on the Agenda

The new PGPZ lobbying entity aims to advance policy on clarifying digital asset regulation and tax treatment, including the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act and two tax initiatives related to digital assets.

PGPZ Originated from an Electric Coin Co. Initiative in 2022

PGPZ was launched in June this year, evolving from Pretty Good Policy for Crypto, which began in 2022 as an initiative of Electric Coin Co. The project organized industry roundtables in Washington and, in 2023, held a congressional briefing on encryption technologies.

Goal: Systematic Advocacy for Zcash Interests in Washington

PGPZ founder and ZODL chief policy and regulatory officer Paul Brigner stated that the goal is to provide Zcash with "serious, organized, and authoritative engagement with policymakers in Washington." According to him, the decisions being made will determine whether confidential "digital cash" can exist, be used legally, and serve the public interest; PGPZ's task is to ensure Zcash is understood, represented, and protected in these discussions.
