The CEO of OKX has issued a warning to users: depositing crypto from "high-risk" addresses can trigger an enhanced AML review that could last 15 days or more. During this period, OKX may restrict account features and lock access to funds. If the exchange confirms ties to high-risk or illegal activity, it can permanently suspend the account.
Enhanced AML Checks and Account Freezes
According to the CEO, these strict reviews kick in specifically when funds come from addresses flagged as high-risk by OKX’s systems. While the review is ongoing, users can lose access to parts of their account and their crypto. The timeline is quoted as “15 days or more,” meaning the freeze can stretch out until compliance procedures are fully wrapped up.
What Counts as High Risk?
OKX singles out funds coming from deals with Telegram escrow services, Huione, or similar channels as especially risky. Crypto coming in from these sources is likely to face extra scrutiny and could trigger additional checks on the exchange.
What This Means for OKX Users
Depositing from questionable sources could mean a lengthy review and temporary account restrictions. If OKX finds any evidence linking a user to high-risk or illegal activity, they reserve the right to shut down the account for good.
