Longs per short: 1.00 is even, 2.00 means twice as many longs. ⚠️ The three rows measure different things — all accounts, top accounts and their money — and are comparable only within one venue.

The three series answer different questions. «All accounts» counts accounts in a long — that is retail, with many small positions. «Top traders» measures money in longs among the top 20% by margin — that is whales. The gap between the two is what this page is for.

Frequently asked questions

What is the long/short ratio?

The share of traders or money positioned long versus short on an exchange's futures. A ratio above 1 means more longs than shorts.

What is the difference between the account ratio and the position ratio?

The account ratio counts traders: each account is one vote regardless of size. The position ratio weighs by money. When many small accounts are long but most money is short, the two diverge, and that gap is often the useful signal.

Is a high long ratio bullish?

Not by itself. When the crowd is heavily long, there are more positions to liquidate on a drop. Many traders read extreme ratios as a contrarian warning, especially together with high funding.

What is taker buy/sell volume?

The split of trades by who crossed the spread: market buyers or market sellers. It shows which side was aggressive over the period.
