Funding is a payment between the two sides of a perpetual contract. Positive means longs pay shorts, so the market is crowded long. Negative means shorts pay. ⚠️ Most venues settle every eight hours; where the period differs it is printed next to the rate, because without it the numbers are not comparable.

Frequently asked questions What is the funding rate? A periodic payment between longs and shorts on perpetual futures that keeps the contract price close to spot. When funding is positive, longs pay shorts; when it is negative, shorts pay longs.
How often is funding paid? On most venues every eight hours. Some contracts settle every four hours or every hour; the table marks those. The annualised figure lets you compare them on one scale.
What does high funding tell me? That one side is crowded. Persistently high positive funding means many traders hold leveraged longs and pay to keep them, which often precedes a long squeeze. Deeply negative funding is the mirror case.
Why is funding different on each exchange? Each venue has its own traders and its own formula. The open-interest weighted average shows what the market as a whole pays.
