Waymo is officially entering Southeast Asia: the company just announced its first commercial robotaxi rollout in Singapore, set for 2028. This marks Waymo’s debut in the region. Once live, riders will be able to book fully driverless trips straight from the Waymo app.
Waymo’s Big Announcement
The company is targeting 2028 for its Singapore robotaxi launch. Rides will be booked through Waymo’s own app, and the fleet will be made up of all-electric Jaguar I-PACE vehicles.
How the Launch Will Roll Out
The first Jaguar I-PACE EVs are landing in Singapore over the next few months. In 2027, Waymo’s team will drive them manually on local roads to tune the system for Singapore’s unique infrastructure and weather. This hands-on testing is key before going fully driverless.
How Robotaxi Rides Will Work
After the adaptation phase, the service will flip to fully autonomous mode: you’ll be able to hail and ride in a Waymo robotaxi using the app. This is Waymo’s first move into the Southeast Asian market.
