PsiQuantum has inked a final agreement with the U.S. Department of Commerce for a $100 million grant under the federal CHIPS and Science Act. The funding will go toward R&D and kickstarting domestic manufacturing of key hardware for quantum systems—think optical switches and photon detectors.
$100M Grant from the CHIPS and Science Act
The grant is part of a federal push to ramp up high-tech manufacturing in the States. PsiQuantum plans to use the cash for both research and building out production lines for components that are crucial to scalable quantum computers.
Silicon Photonics at the Core
PsiQuantum is building fault-tolerant quantum computers using silicon photonics. This approach lets them leverage existing chip fabs—integrating quantum optics with tried-and-true semiconductor processes.
Bringing Key Components Stateside
The plan is to manufacture optical switches and photon detectors right here in the U.S., while continuing hardware research for quantum computing. The company is led by Victor Peng.
