THORChain declined to block addresses linked to the stolen Bitget funds: on September 25, the exchange reported "unauthorized transfers" amounting to $351.6 million, later increasing the estimated loss to $387.5 million. Bitget CEO Gracy Chen publicly called on the DEX to blacklist these addresses, but the THORChain team rejected the request.

Bitget linked the attack to North Korean hackers

According to Bitget's preliminary investigation, the IP addresses involved were associated with VPN services used by a North Korean hacker group; Chen also noted similarities with previous thefts. North Koreans had previously been linked to the Bybit hack of $1.5 billion, with a significant portion of those funds later exchanged via THORChain.

The possibility of address blocking on THORChain is unclear

It is unclear whether THORChain can selectively block addresses: in February 2025, the project announced it had retired the admin key that allowed such actions. However, in May, the network was promptly suspended following its own $10.7 million hack.

The RUNE token gained 50% over the week

Amid the debate over address blocking, THORChain's native token RUNE rose by 50% over the week.

Buterin: Ethereum is evolving beyond "just a blockchain"

Ethereum creator Vitalik Buterin described the network's evolution plan into a "cryptographic world computer" through the integration of zero-knowledge proofs, parallel processing, privacy, and post-quantum technologies. According to him, "this is no longer just a blockchain, but a hybrid architecture" combining blockchains with cryptographic privacy, verification, and powerful decentralized off-chain components. He called the Hegota fork planned for next year likely the last "regular" fork. Coinbase co-founder Brian Armstrong called the post analysis "interesting," and Aave founder Stani Kulechov drew a similar conclusion about the expansion of possible use cases.
