Samsung C&T is putting up to $100 million into nuclear startup Kairos Power and joining the build-out of the 50 MW Hermes 2 reactor for Google. The deal structure is a mix: $70 million goes directly into Kairos Power’s equity, with the rest earmarked for engineering services.

The total commitment could hit $100 million. Of that, $70 million is equity funding for the startup, while the remaining funds will support engineering work on the Hermes 2 project. Financial backing and technical expertise are bundled together to speed up both prep and construction of the reactor.

Hermes 2 for Google: Timeline and Capacity

Hermes 2 is designed for a 50 MW output, with a target launch in 2030. It’s the first phase of Kairos Power’s agreement with Google and will deliver the initial 50 MW of supply.

What’s Next with Google

The partnership aims for a total of around 500 MW in new reactors by 2035. Hermes 2 is just the starting point, laying the groundwork for scaling up future capacity under this program.
