Nvidia just pumped $3.5 billion into MediaTek via convertible bonds, doubling down on their partnership across AI infrastructure, edge computing, and automotive tech. The big headline: MediaTek is set to plug into Nvidia’s NVLink Fusion platform.

Big Money and Bigger Partnership

The $3.5 billion deal comes in the form of MediaTek convertible bonds. Alongside the investment, both companies announced they’re leveling up their tech alliance, zeroing in on solutions for data centers, edge workloads, and next-gen automotive systems.

NVLink Fusion: XPUs and Scalable AI Systems

NVLink Fusion gives developers the tools to build custom accelerators (XPUs) and hook them directly into Nvidia’s rack-level scalable AI systems. Instead of reinventing the wheel, customers can focus on their own accelerator tech, while MediaTek and Nvidia handle the high-speed interconnects.

What This Means for Customers

By integrating with NVLink Fusion, it’s way easier to connect custom XPUs to Nvidia’s established AI ecosystem. That could speed up adoption for both data center and edge/automotive use cases. For devs, it lowers the barrier to entry—less time wrangling infrastructure, more time building out your own accelerator architecture.
