New York Attorney General Letitia James filed a lawsuit on Thursday against the prediction markets platform Polymarket, accusing it of offering contracts tied to sporting events in violation of the state's gambling laws.
The lawsuit cites the mobile app and advertising in the state
The filing highlights sports-related contracts available through the Polymarket mobile app, which launched in December 2025, as well as the company's advertising practices targeting New York residents. According to the case materials, state authorities may seek to block access to the platform for state residents.
The case follows lawsuits against Kalshi, Coinbase, and Gemini
The lawsuit against Polymarket comes after a similar case was brought against Kalshi in July and legal proceedings involving prediction platforms launched by Coinbase and Gemini in April.
Jurisdiction dispute over prediction markets
The case underscores disagreements between state and federal authorities over oversight of prediction markets. CFTC Chair Michael Selig maintains that the federal agency has "exclusive jurisdiction" over such companies. Earlier this month, New Jersey officials petitioned the U.S. Supreme Court to review the Kalshi case; the court has not yet announced whether it will take it up.
