NEAR Intents has frozen $503,000 linked to the Bitget hack, while $166,000 was successfully moved through the protocol.
Over $50 Million in Stolen Funds Attempted Through the Protocol
More than $50 million in stolen assets were routed through NEAR Intents. The SHIELD system blocked most transactions at the quoting stage, and some transfers were halted during execution.
Intents Architecture Includes Managed Freezes
NEAR Intents stated that “permissionless does not mean neutral.” The protocol's architecture allows designated controlling addresses to freeze accounts and fully halt swaps and withdrawals. The team confirmed this approach publicly (NEAR Intents statement).
THORChain Did Not Implement Selective Freezes After the Same Hack
By comparison, THORChain chose not to selectively freeze hacker funds after the same incident, citing its permissionless architecture.
Intents Is a Separate Layer on Top of NEAR L1
NEAR Intents is a separate protocol built on top of NEAR. The presence of freezing mechanisms in Intents does not mean similar tools exist at the NEAR L1 level.
