NEAR Intents reported blocking over $50 million in attempted transfers of funds linked to the Bitget hack, in which $387.5 million was stolen on Thursday.
SHIELD detected transfers: $503K frozen, about $166K passed through
Alex Shevchenko, General Manager of NEAR Intents, said a significant portion of the stolen funds was moved on the Ethereum network. The SHIELD system detected and blocked over $50 million in attempted laundering; $503,000 was frozen during execution, while about $166,000 in suspicious funds passed through the protocol. The blocked funds are expected to be returned through a legal process.
NEAR Intents will decline Bitget reward
The protocol will not claim the 5% reward for freezing the attackers' funds or the additional 5% for returning them, so that more assets can be returned to Bitget.
THORChain does not implement selective censorship; NEAR Intents' position and quotes
Amid Bitget's calls for THORChain to block addresses linked to the attack, THORChain stated it "does not censor by design" and had previously halted the network only in emergencies, not for selective freezing. Shevchenko emphasized that refusing to assist in laundering stolen assets is a "deliberate choice" by developers, adding: "Property rights are the foundation of functioning markets."
Circle and Tether froze $318,013 in stablecoins
Earlier, Circle and Tether blacklisted a wallet linked to the Bitget exploiter, freezing $318,013 in USDT and USDC.
