MetaMask just dropped a bunch of new tools to fight off the most common crypto scam tactics. Now, the wallet app throws up warnings if it spots a spoofed address, if you're sending funds to someone new, or if your transaction looks like a classic investment or romance scam—those are the tricks that trip up users most often.
What's New in MetaMask
When you try to send assets, MetaMask flags risky situations with clear alerts: if the recipient field might have a swapped-out address, if you're sending to a fresh contact, or if your move looks like an investment or romance ploy. The idea is to warn you before you confirm—giving you a chance to double-check and avoid getting burned.
Added Protection: Automatic Transaction Blocking
The Added Protection feature cranks up security even more. It automatically rejects any transaction where the final result doesn't match the previewed calculation. That means if something changes between what you expect and what actually happens, the transaction gets blocked—cutting off potentially dangerous moves before they go through.
Where You Can Use These Features
The new protections are rolling out first in the MetaMask browser extension. The same tools are coming soon to the mobile app, so users there can get the same peace of mind.
