Meta has started putting robots to work on technical tasks inside its data centers. According to the project details, these machines handle cable management—plugging in, swapping out, and connecting cables—reboot servers, and take care of routine equipment maintenance.

What jobs are robots handling?

The list of tasks includes replacing and connecting network cables, rebooting servers, and carrying out basic maintenance on the infrastructure. The goal is to automate repetitive rack-level and network tasks that eat up engineers’ time.

What gear is Meta using?

For these trials, Meta is using solutions from Watney Robotics, Kinova, and ABB. The Kinova Gen3 robotic arm is being tested specifically for rebooting and cutting power to servers. Another setup is focused on automating the replacement of network cables.
