Starting September 1, 2026, retail giant Magnit and telecom provider MTS will roll out support for digital ruble payments for both goods and services. This move was reported by RBC Crypto, citing info shared with ForkLog.

How Digital Ruble Payments Work

Shoppers will be able to pay using the digital ruble at Magnit stores and for MTS services. To get started, you'll need to open a digital ruble wallet through your bank's app. Once your wallet is set up, you'll also be able to use this payment method when checking out on major marketplaces like Ozon and Wildberries.

What Sellers and Shoppers Need

For merchants to accept digital ruble payments, they'll need to set up a separate account specifically for handling this currency. On the customer side, all it takes is opening a digital ruble wallet in your banking app to unlock the new payment option.

Expanding Cashless Payment Options

Bringing the digital ruble to big retail chains and telecom providers opens up fresh use cases for both consumers and businesses. Paying with digital currency is about to become an everyday thing—from buying groceries to topping up your phone or placing online orders.
