Lattice Jolt, the latest open-source zkVM, dropped on September 9—touted as post-quantum and built for blockchain ecosystems. LayerZero led development, while the a16z crypto team pitched the update as a big leap in proof speed and efficiency.
What Happened
According to a16z crypto devs, Lattice Jolt cranks up the speed for generating and verifying cryptographic proofs by 2–3x over the previous version. The project is designed to be quantum-resistant and lets users verify computations in decentralized environments.
Jolt’s Key Features
The centerpiece is Akita, a new polynomial commitment scheme that enables ultra-compact proofs. Jolt’s architecture leans on lattice-based cryptography, which is the backbone of its post-quantum claims.
Why Blockchains Need This
Lattice Jolt tackles the challenge of computation verification, focusing on future-proofing against quantum threats and boosting performance. The devs say their mix of lattice primitives and the Akita scheme delivers tight proofs with much faster generation and verification. LayerZero took the lead on this build.
