LUMI AI Factory has tapped Finnish quantum computing developer IQM for a three-stage roadmap to power its LUMI-IQ system. The plan? Roll out the Halocene H4 system with 150 physical qubits in 2027. By 2029, the project will get a serious upgrade to Halocene H5, supporting up to nine logical qubits with live error correction.
What’s Been Announced
This move locks in IQM’s tech as the backbone of LUMI-IQ and sets a clear path forward. Two major milestones are on the table: Halocene H4 goes live in 2027 (packing 150 physical qubits), and then an upgrade to Halocene H5 by 2029, bringing support for up to nine logical qubits with real-time error correction baked in.
Why Logical Qubits Matter
Logical qubits with real-time error correction are a big leap from just cranking up the number of physical qubits—they’re key to making quantum computing actually reliable. The roadmap lays this out: Halocene H5 is set to support up to nine logical qubits, which should make computations way more robust compared to setups relying only on physical qubits.
