Shipyard has announced it's ending work on the InterPlanetary File System (IPFS) after Protocol Labs pulled the plug on project funding. With no dedicated support teams left, the future of core public IPFS services is now up in the air.
Shipyard Bows Out of IPFS
Shipyard, which had been handling IPFS maintenance and development, is officially stepping back. The move comes after Protocol Labs—IPFS's main backer—ditched the project. Without that financial lifeline, Shipyard says it just can't keep working on IPFS.
IPFS Future Now Unclear
With funding gone, the fate of key public IPFS services is now in Protocol Labs' hands. It's anyone's guess who'll handle support and development from here, or what this means for users and the broader IPFS infrastructure.
What This Means for Decentralized Tech
IPFS has been a backbone for decentralized tech, powering data storage and sharing. Losing dedicated maintainers could hit the reliability and accessibility of everything built on IPFS.
