Huawei is moving up the launch of its Ascend 960DT AI chip, now set to drop in the first quarter of 2027. The company’s also planning to roll out the Ascend 960PR in Q3 that same year. Alongside the chips, Huawei unveiled its Peerium architecture, designed to link up AI accelerators into massive compute systems—with an eye on scaling to as many as 1 million processors down the line. The company says demand for AI hardware is still outpacing what it can supply, even within China.
Ascend 960DT Launches Q1 2027
The Ascend 960DT is now slated to hit the market earlier than originally planned, arriving at the start of 2027. Speeding up the launch highlights Huawei’s focus on delivering next-gen AI hardware, where raw performance and a scalable accelerator ecosystem are top priorities.
Ascend 960PR Coming in Q3
In the second half of the year, Huawei will drop the Ascend 960PR. This pace means the platform gets a steady upgrade cycle all within a single calendar year, making it easier to sync up new hardware and software stacks for AI workloads.
Peerium: Scaling to 1 Million Processors
The new Peerium architecture is built to connect tons of AI accelerators into a single, unified system for large-scale compute jobs. The roadmap targets scaling up to 1 million processors, potentially pushing the performance ceiling for data centers and AI clusters even higher.
Demand Outstrips Supply
Huawei admits it still can’t keep up with red-hot demand for AI hardware, even just inside China. That’s why the company is fast-tracking the Ascend 960DT, planning the Ascend 960PR, and betting big on interconnects and clustering with Peerium.
