On-chain analytics from CryptoQuant tracked some major moves in the Bitcoin market this August. From August 1 to 30, wallets holding 100+ BTC scooped up around 60,000 BTC (about $4.6 billion), while smaller holders were net sellers over the same period.

Whales Stacked More BTC

Big players—wallets with at least 100 BTC—were steadily adding to their bags almost all month. According to CryptoQuant, this group net bought roughly 60,000 BTC in August alone.

Retail Trimmed Their Holdings

Meanwhile, retail wallets were offloading Bitcoin: addresses holding between 1 and 100 BTC sold about 33,000 BTC (roughly $2.5 billion), and wallets under 1 BTC dropped another 14,000 BTC (about $1 billion). These sell volumes are also highlighted in the CryptoQuant August 1–30 summary.

What These Flows Tell Us

August data shows a clear divergence in strategy: whales kept accumulating, while small and mid-sized holders took profits or cut risk. CryptoQuant defines "whales" as wallets with 100+ BTC, while "retail" refers to addresses holding up to 100 BTC.
