On September 10, Coinbase announced it’s rebranding Base App back to Coinbase Wallet. The team dropped the update on social media: “Base App is now Coinbase Wallet. Built for speed. Trade anything, anywhere, without asking permission.”
What happened
Coinbase has switched the name of its Base App back to Coinbase Wallet. The rebrand was made official on September 10, 2026.
Why bring back the Coinbase Wallet brand?
Product lead Ryan Kess said the app has moved beyond just being part of the L2 Base ecosystem. According to him, the Coinbase Wallet name better captures its role as Coinbase’s non-custodial gateway to the “exchange of everything.”
How the product is positioned now
The announcement highlights the wallet’s speed and permissionless trading. The focus is on Coinbase Wallet as a non-custodial wallet and an entry point to a much broader world, not just another L2 network wallet.
