Anthropic has begun blocking Claude users who connect via VPN: in Russia, dozens of accounts have been affected, including developers and senior IT executives. A similar wave of blocks has also impacted Hong Kong.

Anthropic detects actual region even with VPN use

According to user reports, the service can now identify the real connection region despite VPN usage. Blocked accounts receive notifications about "suspicious signals" and lose access to their accounts, Claude Code, and chat history.
