On August 27, QuEra Computing revealed that Anthropic’s Claude AI agent developed and validated a standalone program to automatically restore the operating frequency of a laser. The system is designed to bring the setup back to its target state after any faults.

Test Results

In a controlled batch of 700 tests spanning seven different fault types, the controller built by Claude successfully restored the system to its target state 695 times. Notably, the system didn’t report a single false positive — it never claimed a successful recovery when one hadn’t actually happened. QuEra attributed the five failures to the experimental hardware itself, not the code.

Context

QuEra’s quantum computers use neutral atoms. This new automation specifically targets restoring the operating frequency of the laser used in these setups.
