TikTok's parent company ByteDance just scored a massive $29.6 billion unsecured loan from almost 30 banks. The company originally aimed for $20 billion, but upped the size of the deal thanks to huge lender demand. The three-year loan is set aside for general corporate needs.
Why ByteDance Borrowed—And the Deal Terms
This three-year loan comes with no collateral attached and is marked for "general corporate purposes," giving ByteDance plenty of flexibility to allocate funds where it matters most. The target amount shot up from $20 billion to $29.6 billion due to strong interest from lenders.
Where the Money's Going
A big chunk of the new funding will back ByteDance's international AI initiatives, including ramping up infrastructure and building out data centers across Southeast Asia.
Who’s Backing the Loan
Nearly 30 banks are in on the deal, with Chinese lenders making up over 60% of the total funding.
