Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has put forward EIP-8288 for the network upgrade following Hegota. The proposal aims to bundle cryptographic proofs before transactions hit the block. According to Buterin, this move could cut gas costs for quantum-resistant private operations from around 10 million down to just tens of thousands. He also believes this change would make it easier to support new types of digital signatures in the Ethereum (ETH) ecosystem.

What EIP-8288 Brings: Aggregating Proofs Before the Block

EIP-8288 suggests consolidating proofs tied to private transactions at the pre-processing stage. Instead of submitting a pile of individual proofs for every operation, validators would push a single aggregated proof into the block.

How It Impacts Private Transaction Costs

Buterin estimates that running private transactions with quantum-resistant protection currently burns about 10 million gas. With EIP-8288, that number could drop to just tens of thousands, making these transactions way more affordable for users.

Making Room for New Digital Signature Types

Buterin points out that this proposal would also streamline adding and supporting new digital signature types. By standardizing how proofs are handled, it lowers the integration headache and gives devs more flexibility to roll out modern cryptographic schemes.
