The CEO of Bitget has asked the decentralized protocol THORChain to deny service to addresses linked to hackers.

“Decentralization is a design principle, not a shield”

In her statement, the Bitget executive wrote: “Decentralization is a design principle, not a shield for facilitating the movement of known stolen funds.”

Criticism: Request contradicts the permissionless nature of DEXs

In response, commentators pointed out that blocking addresses is incompatible with permissionless architecture and questioned why similar demands are not made of BTC or ETH networks. Among the replies: “Go to ETH, BTC, and XRP holders and ask them to freeze your money,” “You don’t take responsibility and point fingers at PERMISSIONLESS protocols?” and “Why aren’t you asking BTC to block stolen funds?”
