Starting Wednesday, Binance Pay will allow eligible foreign users visiting Japan to pay with USDT at most merchants accepting PayPay, using the HIVEX platform. Merchants will receive settlements in yen.

First Crypto Service Accessing PayPay via HIVEX

Binance stated it is the first crypto payment service to gain access to PayPay merchants through the HIVEX infrastructure. Merchants do not need a separate connection—existing PayPay merchants can accept payments, and settlements remain in yen.

PayPay Covers Millions of Locations, Including Retail Chains and Transport

PayPay is a cashless payment service accepted at millions of locations across Japan, from major chains and small retailers to vending machines, taxis, and public transportation. HIVEX currently supports nine overseas payment services, mainly from China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.

Context: Tourism in Japan

In 2025, Japan received a record 42.7 million international visitors; based on 2024 data, the country ranked ninth globally and first in Asia. In August 2026, there were 3.1 million arrivals (−9.6% year-on-year), and 27.6 million over eight months (−2.7%).
