Bill Gates has warned that a wave of cyberattacks using AI is possible in the coming year. He believes the main threat does not come from "AI going out of control," but from hackers using the latest models without protective restrictions. He shared these views in his statements.
Main risk: hackers with unrestricted models
According to Gates, the immediate danger is linked to the availability of powerful models without built-in "safeguards," which can be used for hacking and other cyber threats.
AI will change the labor market and tax policy
Gates predicts a public debate about large-scale job displacement. He allows for the possibility of taxes on the use of AI and robots, as well as preserving certain professions exclusively for humans.
Government regulation of AI technologies is needed
In Gates's view, AI is more dangerous than cars, airplanes, and medicines, so self-regulation by developers is not enough—serious government regulation is required.
Loss of control is not the primary risk
Gates believes that the threat of AI going out of control is not the main issue at this stage; in his opinion, several years remain before such a scenario could have large-scale consequences.
