Speaking at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Albanese warned that artificial intelligence is developing "at a breakneck pace" and urged countries to work together to establish rules for new technologies. He added that even leaders of AI companies are warning about the risks of rapidly advancing systems without proper safeguards.

OpenAI Learned of the Incident in August and Notified Later

According to Albanese, OpenAI did not notify the Australian government until September 10—nearly three months after the incident. The company stated it became aware of the access in August and conducted an assessment of the affected data before notifying Services Australia.
